I remember my Mother as one who was calm, carried on, and made the most of things - even (and especially in the face of adversity) As a child, she lost her parents young - her own Mother around the age of 8 and her Father around the age of 18. She endured great adversity, even as a young child, but would calmly move forward. There was a fire in their home and Mom had sisters with burn injuries, one more severe than another. (Putting it mildly) All of these experiences, as a child, possibly lead to the calm that would come to represent my Mother's nature. As an adult, Mom had seven children. One child did not live long (minutes, hours), another was significantly premature with resulting complications, and another contracted polio. These were great challenges that had to be overcome. Mom asked that donations be made to Riley Children's Hospital. That is so typical of my Mother, never forgetting what is important, and always being appreciated of her blessings. Dad and Mom moved us to Florida, originally, when I was pre-school age. I believe that Mom loved her years in Florida, although leaving cherished relatives in Indiana was never easy. In spite of everything, Mom had a sunny disposition. One time, I was struggling to raise all sons. I was used to (almost entirely) girls, girls growing up. Mom calmly said to me, 'No need to worry, they WILL survive.' And they did.

I had the pleasure of growing up around Emma’s six children. What a wonderful experience that was and those friendships continue to this day. I have been so blessed to know this family. Emma Adams always had a smile on her face and a comforting demeanor. When I visited Emma in Bradenton FL a few years ago she showed me pretty crafts she was making and gave me a vintage beaded purse that I treasure. I will miss Emma but take comfort in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior. My prayers are with the whole family. Love, Holley Pauley

One of many memories is of going to see Grandma at Belk Lindsey. She wrapped presents for us so fancy that I didn’t want to open them. As a kid, I thought that was the neatest thing in the world! I still like to shop at Belk because of those fond memories.
