Obituary of Riley B. Roberts
After a valiant battle with Cancer, Riley passed peacefully at 1am on Sunday, November 7, 2010. A devoted husband and father, a dedicated worker, a contented retiree, an avid fisherman, an eager hunter and a loyal friend. A man of ministry to those who needed assistance or a simple visit, Riley made his journey of hope and purpose from the Bedford Regional Medical Center to his eternal heavenly home.
As is true with all Gods people, Rileys 69-year life reflected a work-in-progress. God has now finished his work and Riley is home. He will never again experience disappointment, pain, worry, grief or sorrow.
Riley was born March 2, 1941 in Greene County, Indiana, to Dale and Maxine (Corbin) Roberts. He is survived by his loving wife Dianne (Ragsdale) of 31 years; his daughter Kelly Leveque (David) of Bedford; three sons Jim Ragsdale (Candy) of Oolitic, Robbie Atchison (Andrew) of Dallas, Texas, and Scott Roberts of Williams; a brother Ronnie D. Roberts (Marsha) of Bedford; Five grandchildren: Josh and Elizabeth Leveque, Dylan Ragsdale, Deanda and Casey Roberts; a niece and nephew; his many friends; and 2 faithful feline friends, Miss Priss and Annie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Riley served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963. After he left the service, he worked at the Naval Weapons Support Center, Crane, Indiana for 34 years. Most of those years were spent in the Public Works Department where he enjoyed the comradery of his colleagues. He retired in 1994 as a Public Works Supervisor and received multiple performance based awards, the most notable being the Public Works Department Employee of the Year award, which was presented by the Commanding Officer.
He was an active member of the Oolitic Baptist Church and a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge. Funeral Information
Visitation will be from 3 - 8pm Tuesday, November 9 at Day & Carter Mortuary with Masonic Rites at 7pm. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10am on Wednesday, November 10, also at Day & Carter. Reverend Richard Tallman will officiate. Burial to follow at Owensburg Cemetery with military rites accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Donations Information
