Obituary of Ruth Quackenbush Holmes Reath
Bedford-Ruth Quackenbush Holmes Reath, 86, of 1303 Q Street died at 10:30 A.M. Sunday, August 31 at her residence after a short illness.
Born on February 17, 1917 in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James a Quackenbush and Lula Kern. She married Robert M. Holmes on December 25, 1942 and he died in 1954. She later married James M. Reath on July 31, 1974 and he died in 1997.
She was a teacher for twenty-two years teaching at North Lawrence Community Schools including Pace, Fayetteville, Stalker and Needmore Schools. She was a Secretary to the County Supt. of Schools; Treasurer of Lawrence County serving two terms for a total of eight years. She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and received her B.S. and M.S. Degrees from Indiana University. A member of Central Church of Christ, she was a former Bible School Teacher. She was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association; Hoosier Uplands Board and board member of Managers for Independent Limestone Companies.
Surviving is one daughter: Mrs. Thomas R. (Anna Jo Holmes) Kendig of Monticello, IN; two grandchildren: Robert Kendig of West Lafayette, IN and Jamie K. Ramirez of Monticello, IN; two great grandchildren: Thomas William Ramirez and Dominic Canon Ramirez and one brother: Harold Quackenbush of Monticello, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sisters: Ina Smith and Helen Spackman. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 4th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Day & Carter on Wednesday, September 3rd from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Thursday from Noon until service time. Donations Information
