Obituary of Vera C. Poole
Oolitic Vera C. Poole, 85, of Oolitic, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born December 25, 1925 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Henry D. and Cora Lee (Wardrip) Benham. She married John F. Poole on May 24, 1952 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 1982. She retired as a seamstress from M. Fine & Sons in 1996 after twenty years and was a member of the Oolitic United Methodist Church and White River Humane Society. She enjoyed writing poetry and had her work published in numerous publications. She was a member of the United Foundation of Doll Clubs and founder of the Enchanted Doll Museum.
Survivors include two sons, John R. Hague of Melrose, Fl and Eric J. (Tyke) Hague of Lake Geneva, FL; adopted son, Jon Phillip Poole of Indianapolis, IN; step-daughter, Linda Sue (Susie) Poole of Bedford; three step-sons, John A. Poole of FL, Freeland D. (Butch) Poole of Bedford and Rickey D. Poole of St. Louis, MO; a sister, June Benham Fiddler McGuinnis of Decatur, IL; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers, Carl H., Lawrence E., William C., James, Harold L. and Russell Benham; and two sisters, Cora I. and Ruth Benham (her twin). Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 13th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Hopkins Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 12th and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Saturday, August 13th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
