Obituary of Elmer Carl Phillips
Bedford, Elmer Carl Phillips, 81, of Bedford, died at 10:45 pm on Wednesday, March 31, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 14, 1922 in Monroe County, he was the son of Carl and Edna (Stewart) Phillips. He married Charline Watkins on February 9, 1946 and she survives.
He was a truck driver for 23 years for Rogers Group and was an avid hunter and good mechanic. He was a member of the Valley Mission Church and was a life member of the VFW.
Surviving with the wife: Charline of Bedford, are two daughters: Sherry East of Bedford and Cherri Linthicum of Smithville, TN; four sisters: Lavonia Deckard, Thelma Deckard and Loretta Maddox all of Bedford and Norma Douglas of Bloomington, one brother: Robert Phillips of Bloomington, one grandson: Charles Phillips East of Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 3rd, from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Duane Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Hanson cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by the American Legion Gillen Post #33.
