Obituary of Zelbert B. Hawkins

Bedford- Zelbert B. (Zeb) Hawkins, 83, of Bedford died at 6:55AM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the IU Health Hospice House. Born April 28, 1930 in Lawrence County he was the son of Zelbert B. and Helen (Dalton) Hawkins. He married Gloria G. Reuter on March 8, 1950 and she survives. He served as Lawrence County Deputy Sheriff in the fifties, Lawrence County Assessor in the sixties then was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau for nineteen years retiring in 1990. He was a very active member and elder of the Dive Christian Church, an associate member of Stone City Lodge FOP #94, a former member of the Lawrence County Exchange Club, and WBCCI Airstream. Survivors include his wife Gloria of Bedford; three children: Jerry Hawkins of Bedford, Debbie Maze and her husband Jon of Bedford, and Randy Hawkins and his wife Emily of Bedford; six grandchildren: Missy Brown and her husband Stacey of Bedford, Mindy Bugh of Oolitic, Justin Pogue and his wife Michelle of Newburgh, Marci Bennett and her husband Bryce of Bedford, Heath Hawkins of Louisville, KY and Sarah Peters and her husband Curt of Vallonia; seven great grandchildren: Jordan Snow, Taylor Brown, Clayton Brown, Dalton Brown, Brynlea Bennett, Kaedyn Bennett, and Ella Pogue; two sisters: Lois Hardwick and her husband Robert of Bloomington, and Joanna Williams and her husband Kenneth of Williams; one brother in law: Doug Kidwell of Brownstown, one sister in law: Carolyn Hawkins of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter in law: Debbie Ann Hawkins, two brothers: George Hawkins and his wife Betty, and Mike Hawkins; one sister: Mary Kidwell. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15th at the Dive Christian Church with Johnny Johnson and Matt Courtney officiating. Burial will follow in the Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 14th from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Day & Carter Mortuary, and from 1:00 PM until the hour of service on Wednesday. Donations Information In lieu of flowers the family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Dive Christian Church Preschool or the church building fund.
