Obituary of George Elza Barnett
Bedford George Elza Barnett, 87, of 721 23rd Street, Bedford, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the Hospitality House in Bedford.
Born June 15, 1919, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of George Washington and Amanda (Drabing) Barnett. He married Joanna Fay Fultz on December 20, 1939 and she survives. He was a truck driver for most of his working life. He retired from NSWS in Crane. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific Operations as a Seaman First Class aboard a cargo vessel as a gunner. He was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion and A.F.G.E. Union in Crane, IN.
Surviving with his wife, Joanna are two sons, Terry Randall Barnett of Upper Marlboro, MD and Monty Kay & Janni Barnett of Crawfordsville, IN; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Adams of Danville, IL and Helen Spires of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters (in infancy). Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 9th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Ted Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Leatherwood Cemetery in Bedford. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 8th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
