Obituary of John Everett Newkirk
Silver Springs, FL John Everett Newkirk, 85, of Silver Springs, FL, passed away on September 17, 2009 at his residence in Silver Springs, FL.
Born September 11, 1924 in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Charles E.(Tints) and Ruby (Bell) Newkirk. He married W. May Johnson on November 3, 1955 and she survives. He taught Business Education at Bicknell High School in Bicknell, IN and Washington High School in Washington, IN before moving to Indianapolis in 1960. He was employed by Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township first teaching at Lawrence Central High School then as Business Manager for the School District for twenty-four years. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, May of Silver Springs, FL; two brothers, Robert A. and James Newkirk both of Franklin, IN; a step-sisters-in-law, Eva (Gould) Silvers and Jeanne (Gould) Young both of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby in 1936 and his father, Charles (Tints) in 1979; his step-mother, Cora (Gould) Newkirk in 1983; two step-brothers, John William and Robert Gould; two sisters, Barbara Stapleton and Jeannette Sheek. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 8th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Leatherwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday, October 8th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
