Obituary of Ruby K. Nelson

Bedford Ruby K. Nelson, 72, of 1424 East Oolitic Road, Bedford, died at 4:26 am on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Select Special Hospital in Bloomington. Born December 16, 1931 in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Vernon O. Hicks, Sr. and Ollie S. Sproles. She married John Nelson in 1962. She retired from Ford Electronics in Bedford and was a bartender for over thirty years in Lawrence County. She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple, Eagles Auxiliary, Moose Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and I.B.E.W. Survivors include her husband, seven children, Debbie Lalonde, Claudia Cazee, Randy Nelson, Kathy Livingston and John Nelson, II all of Bedford and Dennis Hicks of Chicago and Steve McDonald of Bloomington; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Turner of Bedford and Alice Hartman of Virginia; two brothers, William W. and Robert E. Hicks both of Bedford. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam J. and Vernon O. Hicks, Jr. and one daughter, Brenda Coy. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 4th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Steve Goens officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3rd and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Pallbearers are Brian Livingston, Tim Livingston, John Coy, Daniel Pace, Toby Pace, Matthew Pace, Ryan Alcorn and Joe Alcorn.
