Obituary of Bruce A. Hewetson

Bedford Bruce A. Hewetson, 57, of Bedford, IN, died at 10:01 pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born February 5, 1951 in Bedford, he was the son of Bruce R. and June (King) Hewetson. He married Julie Johnson on June 30, 1984, and she survives. Bruce graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1969. He graduated from Indiana University in 1973 with a bachelors degree in History. He attended the I.U. School of Law, where he was editor of the Indiana Law Review. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1976. He began his practice with Clarence Donovan and Gordon Emery and was Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Lawrence County. He has practiced as an attorney for thirty-three years with Donovan, Emery, Hewetson & Pittman Law Office. He served on the District #10 Pro Bono Committee and as the North Lawrence School Attorney. Bruce was a member and elder of the Community Baptist Fellowship Church in Bedford, the Lawrence County Bar Association, and Bedford Kiwanis Club. He served on the board of the Lawrence County Cancer Society, the board of the American Red Cross and was an honorary member of the board of the Thornton Memorial Boys Club. He was president of the Lawrence County Aquatics Swim Club and a past president of the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lawrence County Community Foundation. He was a former assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop #332 and was an avid tennis player and fisherman. Bruce Hewetson, a man dedicated to his community, was even more devoted to his family. Bruce was the husband to Julie Johnson Hewetson, and they were planning to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in June of this coming year. For the past 25 years, together they truly enjoyed traveling, attending I.U. sporting events, and supporting their children. He found a lot of joy in watching his children, Anah and Barron, grow and develop into the wonderful contributing individuals that they have become. Barron has recently graduated from Wabash, and he is continuing his education in Indianapolis. Anah has just started her freshman year at the University of Virginia where she has joined the dance team, and Bruce enjoyed many travels to Virginia spent encouraging Anah in dance and her freshman year. Bruce was a strong man in Christ, and everyday he carried and lived by the verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. As a family, they shared many joyful times, none of which will be forgotten. Survivors include his wife, Julie, of Bedford; his mother, June Hewetson, of Bedford; one son, Barron Bruce Hewetson of Indianapolis; one daughter, Anah Kathleen Hewetson, a student of the University of Virginia; one brother, Don J. Hewetson and his wife, Teri of Rock Hill, SC; one sister, Debra Dermody and her husband, Frank of Oakmont, PA; two brothers-in-law, Brian Johnson and his wife, Linda of San Antonio, TX, Reed Johnson and his wife, Shana of Avon, IN; his mother-in-law, Ruth L. Johnson of Bedford; seven nephews, Clint Hewetson, Frank Dermody, Dirk Hewetson, Garrett Johnson, Cole Johnson, Gavin Johnson, Hunter Johnson; two nieces, Jessica Hewetson and Cara Dermody. He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce R. Hewetson, and his father-in-law, Bill Johnson. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 1st at the Community Baptist Fellowship Church with Pastor Eric Kennedy and Jon Lineback officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 31st at the Community Baptist Fellowship Church and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, November 1st at the Community Baptist Fellowship Church. Donations Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 1st at the Community Baptist Fellowship Church with Pastor Eric Kennedy and Jon Lineback officiating.
