Obituary of James Opal McDowell
Bedford James Opal McDowell, Sr., 88 of Springville, went peacefully to be with his Lord, with family by his side at Garden Villa Health Care Center.
Born May 25, 1920 in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of Thomas and Minnie (McKee) McDowell.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 135, and retired from Crulo Trucking Company. He was a founding member of Calvary Chapel Church and served on the Board of Directors for 23 years, and was Treasurer for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Mary (Kirkman) McDowell. Daughter Judy Sipes and husband Larry of Mitchell; son Jim McDowell and wife Karen of Bedford; daughter Gaye Ann Stewart and husband Rick of Bedford; Jon McDowell and wife Kathy of Springville; ten grand-children and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Opal will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at the Calvary Chapel Church which is located at 1201 O Street in Bedford, with his son Jim McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at the Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour Saturday at the church.
