Obituary of Mary Ellen Johnson

Oolitic – Mary Ellen Johnson, 90, of Oolitic, passed away at 8:18 pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Westview Nursing & Rehab. in Bedford. Born October 29, 1933, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of James Albert and Roberta Ione (Foster) Harrison. She graduated from Oolitic High School with the class of 1951. She married George William Johnson on August 4, 1951, and he preceded her in death on July 27, 2011. She retired as a housekeeper for Bedford Medical Center in 1997 and a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Lynn Tillman and husband, Joe, of Florida; two sons, George William Johnson, Jr. and wife, Carol, and Thomas Bret Johnson and wife, Michelle, all of Bedford; a sister, Brenda Kay Stierwalt, of Arizona; a brother, David Daniel Harrison, of Franklin; 7 grandchildren, Lacey (Johnson) Wagner and husband, Andy, Brady Johnson, Brandt Johnson, Hannah (Johnson) Jones and husband, Aaron, Colby (Johnson) Scherschel and husband, Tylor, Cameron Johnson and Sarah (Tillman) Chester and husband, Scott; 9 great-grandchildren, Cori Leigh, Riley Tate, and Campbell Frances Scherschel, Eliza Lillian and Sutton Paige Jones, Liberty Grace and Alyssa Lizzie Chester, Brynlie Julianne and Maybrie Michelle Wagner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Jo Ann Miller. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jerry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Wednesday, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Westview Nursing and Rehab., Oolitic Church of Christ, PWSA.org or FPWR.org for Prader-Willi Research.
