In May of 1968, I had some time before my flight leaving Tague AB, going to Osan Air Base, Korea. I went through a pay line nearby, and a pay clerk asked the airman in front of me if he was from Bedford, Indiana. This is because the service numbers we were all assigned started out with numbers that identified area where the Airman might be from. This particular Airman said that he was not from Bedford. When my turn came, I indicated to the clerk that I was from Bedford. Things became somewhat busy and he only briefly acknowledged what I had said. A little while later, I was just killing time outside where my plane would be and this same clerk came up to me, realizing what I had said, and started talking about being from Bedford. I found out that he had been in the same graduating class as my Sister. Over the years I have thought about how ironic that encounter with Ronnie was, many thousand miles away from Indiana.
