Obituary of Benjamin "Benny" Chambers

Bloomington - Benjamin "Benny" Chambers, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 4:15 am on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Cedar Hurst of Bloomington. Born August 20, 1939, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Morris and Marie (Mitchell) Chambers. Ben grew up on the family farm in Needmore, Indiana and graduated from Needmore High School. One of his claims to fame was making the last second game-winning basketball shot for the Hilltoppers! Ben went to Indiana University where he got his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. He worked for 30 years at I.U., retiring as the Assistant Director of Contract and Grant Administration. Ben's favorite pastimes include watching college football and basketball, playing euchre, reading mysteries and working on the farm. Ben and his wife, Brenda, have been married since 1963. They have enjoyed spending time with life-long friends, traveling around the country, and attending Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Ben and Brenda are the proud parents to their two children; daughter, Alayna Gray lives in Bloomington with her husband, Walt. They have two children, Bryce, who lives in Denver, and Macy, who is attending Ball State. Ben and Brenda's son, Eric Chambers, lives on the family farm in Needmore with his wife, Missy, and their children, Breanna and Logan. Their son Matthew Allen lives nearby with his children, Rain and Coal. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Lyndon Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
