I first met Natalie in middle school— if I can remember correctly— in Mrs. Baker’s homeroom. She sat down at the desk in front of me, whipped around, and immediately introduced herself with an enthusiastic wave and a big smile. I remember talking to her all the time during our break periods and she quickly became one of my close friends.
I didn’t see her often in high school, but if I ever did, she greeted me with a smile. I saw her as someone who wasn’t afraid to stand up for her peers, who was able to make people laugh, and who had compassion for every single person around her— and that’s an incredibly rare person to come across. The kindness Natalie displayed in the few years I knew her is something everyone should strive for in a lifetime.
Though I lost contact with her years ago, I still thought of her often. I’d like to think I have pictures of her in the crypt of my photo gallery, and I will be sure to send them your way if I can find them. I want to extend my deepest condolences to your family.
