Obituary of Marilyn Jeanette George
Marilyn Jeanette George, 92, went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Saturday, March 4th, where she was instantly reunited with her husband, children, and grandsons. Oh, what a celebration that must have been!
Marilyn Jeanette (Armstrong) George was born on November 18, 1930 to Ernest and Hazel Armstrong and was raised in Bedford, IN. After graduating from Bedford High School, she met and fell in love with Robert “Bob” Dean George, the only man to ever capture her heart. Shortly after, they were married, started a family, and began creating a life together.
Marilyn was a member of Owensburg Baptist Church where she was the Sunday School teacher for the 3 to 4 year olds for several decades. She was also the Children’s Ministry Director for many years, a Bible School teacher, and a member of both the Ladies Ministry and the P.E.P. Club. She was a talented seamstress for most of her life. While her granddaughters were growing up, there wasn’t an Easter Sunday or Christmas day that they couldn’t be seen wearing matching dresses that she made. Marilyn began gardening as a young girl and was blessed with a green thumb. She put out quite an amazing garden that fed her and her children’s families. She often found herself with an abundance of produce like zucchini that she would serve either fried or hidden in chocolate cakes. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. Her family always looked forward to Sunday birthday dinners at her house that would end with a cake that she baked and decorated herself. Marilyn also discovered that she was a talented painter, and created many landscape paintings over the course of twenty years. In the last few years, Marilyn was not able to get around as much, and focused her creative energy into knitting hats. She then donated them to various children’s organizations and groups.
In addition to all of her talents, her greatest gift that she possessed was her dedication and love for the Lord. She was a faithful servant for most of her life, helping to instill a Christian foundation in the children that found themselves in her care. Many children from the community grew to love her and referred to her as “Grandma Marilyn.” Her legacy continues to grow and multiply.
She is survived and dearly missed by her grandchildren Julie (Don) Galbraith, Brian (Chantel) Crohn, Valerie (Patrick) Ault, Tim (Brittani) George, Heather (Zach) Myers, and Kelsey (John) Graber; great-grandchildren Hunter and Jesse Hollingsworth, Drew Polite, Georgia Crohn, Zoie and Maddox Ault, Addison George, Korbin and Addie Ikerd, Thomas and Katherine Myers, Noah George and Ava Graber. She is also survived by her sister Anna Ruth Young, daughters-in-law Coleen George and Jennifer George, and son-in-law Ed Crohn, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, whom she loved with all of her heart, until her last day, Robert (Bob) Dean George, her three children Kerry George, Kristy Crohn, and Kirby George, two grandsons Devin and Mason George, a sister Lois Moore and brother Ervin Armstrong.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 9th at the Owensburg Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday at the Owensburg Baptist Church. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
