I hardly know where to begin. To describe how remarkable Gerry was would take volumes. I came to meet Gerry as I step into the Emergency Management role. At that time Building Codes, Regulatory issues, Inspections, and the Building Commission were the daily chores, with unbelievable ebb and flow. I was such a novice, yet Gerry with that smile, a glean in his eye, would nudge me with his elbow and tell me "you got this", it may all the difference in the world. Here was a man, filled with experience and knowledge that could have, and should have led major Industrial Operations, encouraging me to make decisions that could impress cities, and towns economically across Indiana. After one major accident, and through the investigation, Gerry was ever present at my side assuring that the those affected, and the states interest were well in hand. But I recall most whether it was a natural disaster, or an industrial issue, he would all tell me " you are doing great, keep it up". He likely didn't know it, and I for reason I can't explain never told him, but he was a great inspiration, and never wanted ever to let him down.
Over the years for lots of reason we lose touch and fail to communicate, but I have thought about Gerry more. Simply because he cared when he didn't have too, encouraged me when I need it most. I will never forget Gerry...and that gleam in his eye followed by a smile and sharp wit, and extraordinary intelligence. Miss you my dear friend.

To the family of Mr. Dunn: In the late '80's Mr. Dunn was my neighbor while I was in high school. I remember him as kind with a wonderful sense of humor. Often I'd go to the Dunn house in the evening, and he, Mrs. Dunn and I would watched taped episodes of Fawlty Towers. One day Mr. Dunn asked me what I planned to do after high school. I told him that I really hadn't decided yet. He asked me what subjects I enjoyed. Math and science was my response. Sounds like an engineer he replied. Even though I grew up an iu (lower case intentional) fan, I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Engineering like my neighbor Mr. Dunn. I'm so grateful that Mr. Dunn was a part of my life. Sincerely, John Pitcher of Houston, TX.

Dear Dunn Family, I send you condolences from the bottom of my heart. Your wonderful father was my wonderful boss at the State Building Commissioner's Office, and he often was the source of human goodness for many of us as we navigated a very stressful governmental regulatory environment. He was devoted to his wife, sons and daughters-in-law, and he adored his grand children. Any given day, after being rudely addressed and treated by irate members of the public, he would smile broadly if we just mentioned one of the children by name. The world has lost a gentleman. His perceptions were always on point, and his jokes were always funny. He was humble. I am thankful to have known and worked with him, and I am deeply sorry for your loss today. Sincerely, Marlie Pedtke

Mark and Gregg,
Your Dad was our Scout Master, and taught us to camp in tents and sleeping bags, in all seasons and weather. He taught us how to cut wood with an axe and saw, to build campfires, to sing songs, hike, and cook over a campfire. He taught us skills that last a lifetime, including knot tying and first aid.
He taught us, and all the neighborhood kids to play softball, football, and basketball, and to run. I saw him as a leader, in church as well as scouts, but he also showed us he cared.
I have no doubt you and your families will miss him, but I also have no doubt we will all be reunited with him, your Mom, your Grandmother and Grandfather, and so many others.
I pray for peace for you and the whole Dunn family.

I liked Gerry the first day I met him. He was a very good Bible teacher & an inspiration to all. He always gave me a mean look at church, but I knew it was a look to inspire me. I loved the knowledge he had of the Bible. To all his family & friends, my condolences be with you. Gerry will be sadly, missed.

Mark, Rita, Gregory, Kelly, and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. You all are in our prayers. We have such fond memories of Gerry. He was such a joy to be around. Always had a smile for everyone and was a great example of Christ. Larry was blessed to serve with Gerry as an elder for many years and his Biblical knowledge as a teacher and leader was an inspiration to those who knew him.
He and Phyllis were a perfectly matched pair. Gerry, as you know, liked to tease Phyllis, both his Phyllis and my Phyllis as well. This was done all in fun and love, one of his sayings was, "If I didn't love you, I wouldn't tease you.
He loved kids and the kids loved him. Our grandchildren loved his attention at Church services.
Gerry also was the consummate professional in his work. It was quite an accomplishment to serve under several governors of different political persuasions. With Gerry, the job was always done right according to proper directives.
It is a blessing to know he is now with the Lord and Phyllis.
All our Love,
Phyllis and Larry Denny
