So very sorry for this loss to the McNichols family. I knew Karen as Elizabeth's grandma when I worked at the daycare before I ever knew her from the Credit Union .I could tell then what a warm and loving person she was.

My first encounter with “Kelly” was during a fire drill at Bloomington High, just two weeks shy of my 16th birthday. We were both newcomers to the school and perceived by the ladies of BHS as unwelcome competition for the boys attentions. She approached me with a thick, incomprehensible New York accent and suggested we be friends. Our friendship was immediate. The great Kelly clan always treated me like family, sharing their traditions of Friday night popcorn and the hideous New York food called Spam; I loved them all. Her brother Kevin served as our body guard, always watching over us. We were even roommates for a time - the Spades ♠️ card game champions of our apartment complex! Although we lived apart for many years, Karen and I never lost touch. In over 55 years of friendship, we never once had an argument (I’m sure neither George or my husband Ross can relate to that). She called me 10 days before she left this world and I only realized she was saying goodbye after hearing from George and Jaimie that she had passed. I will be forever grateful that even in illness, she reached out one last time to her old friend Linda. Forever a remarkable friend and always thinking of others, she will be dearly missed.

Sincerest condolences for the McNichols/Kelly family, I was neighbors to the Kelly family in the 70's, Karen's sister, Theresa, became my best friend..I have such fond memories of Karen & her famous "smirk" as I saw it quite frequently as we were begging her for a ride here or there. I'm very thankful for Karen being at so many Indiana credit union events, providing the opportunity to get to know her as she brightened the occasions for all of us.
