Obituary of Voy Gilbert

Oolitic- Voy Gilbert, 89, of Oolitic, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, December 15th at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born July 25, 1933 in London, KY, he was the son of Wallis and Delia (Gilbert). He married Phyllis Pace and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2011, after 59 years of marriage. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Air Force. He retired from General Motors. Voy’s passion was working in the garage, especially on John Deere lawn mowers. He greatly loved and enjoyed his family. Survivors include his son, Michael Gilbert (Sheila); daughter, Teresa Boshears (Joe); grandchildren, Johnny Mike Gilbert (Lora), Jared Gilbert (Melissa), Justin Gilbert (Ricel), Jeremy Gilbert (Hilary), Jacey Anderson (Gavin), Jordan Boshears (Jamie), and Rhen Boshears; great-grandchildren, Abby Vance (Jared), Isaak, Izabel, Carson, Owen, Lola, Jerett, Jaden, Alleigh, Jax, Jet, and Rheyna Gilbert, Jantz Anderson, Claire Boshears; great great-grandchildren, Vera and Grayson Vance; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; sons, Larry E. and Brian K. Gilbert; four sisters, Mandy Cole Stewart, Glennie Sutton, Ruth Pace, and one in infancy; six brothers, Stanley, Beachel, Burchel, Kenneth and James Gilbert and one in infancy. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Becky’s Place and White River Humane Society. A special thanks to all Stonebridge nurses and staff.
