Since I was Aunt Irene Maurer's nephew, she was often in our home during my more than seventy years. She was a determined, unwavering example of a sanctified life. At the age of 58 she added another new language to her portfolio of languages that she knew well enough to preach in and teach in without an interpreter. She had many degrees including a Master's Degree, and was amazing with her knowledge of the Bible, her flexibility to adjust to any situation, her willingness to face unforeseen difficulties, her non-stop energy--even at high altitudes, and her caring about each of the millions of folk worldwide that she came in contact with. It seemed she had no fear even when she had to evacuate different times due to war, and once looked out of the airplane window to watch the bombs falling. She was good at accounting, an excellent speaker with a great voice who could speak without any time to prepare. My father gave her music lessons before she went to the mission field, and she taught some music in different countries. She learned a multitude of tasks and performed them with excellence. She faced heartbreak the morning after her wedding rehearsal when she learned that her groom-to-be felt he could not go to a mission field with her. After her years at a Bible college of Wesleyan Methodist doctrine, she dedicated the rest of her 98 years to Evangelistic Faith Missions, and served them longer than any others of their 128 laborers in the mission work--a record that will be almost impossible to beat. She will continue to remain an inspiration to thousands in the years to come.--Joseph Bump

Although not really my Aunt, I called her Aunt Irene. She lived with us for a while in Egypt where my parents were missionaries for EFM as well. She was always very kind and I looked up to her. A wonderful example of Christ to us all. My condolences to her family. Naomi Troyer Morrison

As a child, I remember when Aunt Irene would visit and my mom Carolyn would remind us to be on our best behavior. Her stories of selflessness and intriguing countries were fascinating. Her way of challenging us, in a kind way, intellectually and spiritually was over my head as a child. But I appreciate it now. Wonderful woman of God that left the world better than she found it. The Maurer sisters are together again. Thank you Lord for Aunt Irene.
