Contributions to the tribute of M. Maxine Smith

Maxine Smith was a very gracious lady. She lived in my grandparents' home, which she bought from my father after my grandma died. My grandfather had built the home where my father grew up, where I spent many happy years exploring every inch of the attic, basement, bookshelves, and dining room china closets. My love of reading started on the bench in the living room between the book cases. Grandpa had so many books, and many of them are still in possession. Still haven't read them all. Mrs. Smith allowed me to come into her home on two occasions and to "look around" with my cousin who had spent many happy days there, too. Later, she allowed me and my granddaughter to come in again. Since I am in my 80's, I don't get down to Bedford anymore. I was born in the old Dunn Memorial Hospital, so you know I am telling the truth about my age. I am sending my condolences a little late, but I just discovered that Maxine had passed away.

The first photo was taken in 2011, and I am at the top of the photo. Maxine was on the porch. The second photo is of me and my father in 1941 at the back of the home on 12th.
