Obituary of William J. Sears

Bedford – William J. “Jack” Sears, 88, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at his residence. Born August 29, 1933, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Jesse A. and Flossie A. (Lee) Sears. He married Marcella J. Turpin on October 2, 1953, and she survives. He was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1951 and retired from General Motors. He attended the Restoration Church of the Nazarene and was a member of U.A.W. Local #440. Survivors include his wife, Marcella, of Bedford; two daughters, Amy Wray and husband, Tony, of Buddha and Julie Henderson and husband, Glen, of Clear Creek; ten grandchildren, Rusty (Kristina) Sears, Steven (Shannon) Sears, Timothy (Melissa) Wray, Todd (Stephanie) Wray, Ted (Alicia) Wray, Tyler Wray, Thomas (Leah) Wray, Jessica (Erik) Smith, Joni (Stuart) Ratcliff, and Jeni (James) Beasley; twenty-four great-grandchildren, Jackie L. V., Chase and Matthew Sears, Elisha Vanlew, Alex (Shannon) Jones, Ben, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Josiah, Reece, Riley, Jase, River, Madilyn, Vernon, Walter, Jeremiah and Eli Wray, Ali Lucie, Emberlee Smith, Mavda and Keeva Jacobo, Jolene Hunter, and Emma Kay Beasley and two great-grandsons due this Spring; a sister, Janice Wagoner; a sister-in-law, Vonda Reynolds and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jackie Neal Sears; a sister, Barbara Alhorn; a half-brother, Bob Bottoroff; a half-sister, Betty Reuter; two brothers-in-law, Bob Waggoner and Harold “Butch” Turpin. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Gary Pate and Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
