Obituary of Stephen "Mark" Starr, II

Stephen “Mark” Starr II June 17, 1973- September 19, 2021 Bedford- Stephen Mark Starr II, 48, of Bedford, passed away at 3:45 am on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Born on June 17, 1973, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Stephen and Debra (Hearth) Starr. He married Marcy Key on July 26, 2008, and she survives. He attended Oolitic Church of Christ. Mark was a 2001 Graduate of Indiana University. He taught for 19 years in the North Lawrence Community Schools Corporation as an Industrial Technology and Social Studies teacher at Bedford Middle School (BMS) and in the LEAP program at Bedford North Lawrence (BNL) High School. He spent many years coaching girls’ basketball at BMS and as a freshman girls coach at BNL. He served as an inspiration for his many students and a trusted colleague to his fellow teachers. Mark made the world a better place because of his humor, kindness, and support for everyone around him. Mark was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and a friend to everyone lucky enough to have met him. He was an avid sports fan and loved following his Indiana Hoosiers, Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Liverpool FC. He is survived by his wife, Marcy, of Bedford; a daughter, Brianna Starr (Justin Williamson), of Bloomington; his father Stephen (Carol) Starr, of Bedford; a brother Micha (Stephanie) Starr, of Bedford; sisters Stephanie (Andrew) Banks, of Bedford and Amanda (Bobby) Pruett, of Bedford; his mother-in-law, Rita Key, of Bedford; step-sister Melissa Beard, of Bloomington; brothers-in-law, Caleb (Karyn) Key, of Bedford and Jon (Jenn) Key, of Bedford; a grandmother Sue Hearth, of Bedford; Uncle Danny (Cindy) Starr, of Bedford; nieces and nephews Averey and Lucas Banks, Brayson and Riley Pruett, Cailin, Peyton, and Chase Starr, Tyler Turner, Chelsey Beard, Evan, Avery, Addison, Kelsie, Noni, Jada, and Grady Key. He was preceded in death by his mother Debra; grandparents, Jim and Joan Starr, and Max Hearth; uncles, Tony and Jimmy Starr, David Hearth; aunts Kim Kern and Paula Holmes; and father-in-law Marshall Key. Funeral Services, at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bedford, will be conducted by Day and Carter at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 25th with Ed Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, September 24th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, September 25th, all at the church.
