Obituary of John H. Baker
Bedford - John H. Baker, 95, of Bedford, died at 6:13 pm on Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born May 30, 1914, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Lafe and Oma (Higgins) Baker. He married Martha Hackler on May 21, 1933 and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1994. He retired as the street commissioner for the City of Bedford and retired from the maintenance department at the Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1976. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Delores Jane Mitchell of Fayetteville and Carol McCullough of Indianapolis; one brother, Roy Baker of Bedford; five grandchildren, Marsha Holmquist, of Bedford, Steve Waggoner, of Columbus, Carmen Fish and Rusty Collier both of Bedford, and Melissa Brewer of Bloomington; fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha; four brothers; three sisters; one daughter, Ethel Naomi Waggoner; one grandson, Cletus (Butch) Waggoner, Jr. and one great grandson (in infancy). Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 25th at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lawrence Co., with Rev. Kenny Walden and Pastor Frank Johnson officiating. Burial will follow with military rites accorded at the graveside. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on Thursday, March 25th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
