Elizabeth (Libby) Borodach posted a condolence

I met Claude at Oolitic Middle School. He was such a sweet and kind person. I loved to talk to him. I really missed him when he went to BNL, however, every spring when I was at BNL putting up student artwork for the Spring Arts Festival, Claude always stopped by to see me. That would really make my day. I will truly miss my friend.
My condolences to his family.
Love and prayers,
Libby Borodach "Mrs,B"

I send my deepest sympathies to Claude’s wonderful family. He was so proud of you and spoke of you often. It was one of my great fortunes to get to work with Claude for so many years while a part of NLCS. His work ethic left a lasting impression upon me, for which I will always be thankful. Claude took great pride in making sure his assigned areas were always in tip-top shape. I felt lucky that the BNL Office area was a part of his duties, not just because he kept it so clean, but because it gave us almost daily chances to see one another and have a good talk! After a home basketball game, I always looked forward to heading back up to the office for a talk with Claude before heading home. Well, my friend Claude is now truly home himself. I look forward to having more talks with him there, too!

My children loved Claude when he was at Oolitic. They were very happy when he ended up at BNL with them. Then they grew up and moved away and left Claude and I behind. Whenever he saw me he always asked about my kids by name. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Claude was loved by many many people. He will be missed.

Claude's grandpa, Claude Hillenburg and my grandpa, Leston Hillenburg were brothers. His Mom, Moneva (Davis) and my Mom, Marie (Jeffries) were first cousins. Our families have always been close. The last time I talked to Claude, late last summer, we talked about our grandfathers and how fortunate we were to be related to such fine men. His family and mine have always had a special bond. For the past 15 years, he lived on the same street as me and he and his wife Debbie looked out for me. They were great people; love for God, Family and Neighbors was their mission in life. Claude had a heart of gold. He was a hard worker and for years had been the sole caretaker of Breckenridge Cemetery, where many of his relatives on the Davis and Hillenburg sides are buried. He did it all out of the goodness of his heart and was not paid for his work. When he worked for the schools, he watched out for and protected all the kids and they loved him. He was one of the best people I've ever known and will be missed by many. My heart goes out to Debbie and all his family. Love and peace to you, dear cousin, and love and prayers for all the rest of the family. I am honored to have been related to him.

Debbie, there are no words to express my sadness for your loss of a wonderful husband and man!! Claude was the best, he made my day when he came into work, always smiling and always positive. He loved the kids at school, and boy did he love you and his family!! He always talked about you all, and the love came through in his voice!! I am not going to be able to be there for his service, but I am praying for you all and I will be paying my respects tomorrow from afar!

He was one of the sweetest men I've ever known. He was the custodian at Oolitic, and he always had a way of making everyone around him smile. The world is a little dimmer without him here. Rest in heaven, Claude. You earned your wings!
