I enjoyed being part of the Indiana Sons of the American Revolution color guard with Compatriot Dee. I took this picture several years ago and have cherished it as well as my memory of Dee. Perhaps a descendant of James Dee Doane can carry on the rich heritage of color guarding someday.
Patriotically,
Mark Kreps

My Pop was a very important part of our family and the very best Father I could ever ask for. We talked almost daily and he always had a current project, and two or more in the planning stage. At least once a year we would clean his entire collection of guns, which took two full days. This was a labor of love for both of us and he taught me a lot about guns. After many years, he decided to let go of the guns so he could invest in buildings in which he filled with antique hit & miss motors. He even continued his passion of working on the motors after losing his thumb when the piston fired and Dad's hand was in the wrong place. He never said a foul word after the accident and just had mom get a baggy full of ice and we headed to the Hospital. He was always willing to dress up for Halloween parties and sing any chance he got. There simply is not enough that can be said for him. He was truly the greatest man I have had the pleasure to share our family and love with it.
