What a beautiful beautiful memorial! Don was my 2nd cousin 1x removed and it makes me so sad to find out yet another cousin-I-didn't-meet is gone. My grandmother was Esther Schackmann Peterson and her grandfather John George Schackmann was Don's great grandfather. My condolences to your family on the loss of Don and his wife Betty.

Some of my favorite memories of your family are your Newton, Illinois visits (being greeted with warm hugs in my adult years) and the very special Christmas cards (to me, they spoke volumes in the way of love and family) that we received into our home each year as I was growing up. God bless you and your families at this most heartbreaking time. Love and prayers from all of Uncle Joe's families. -- Sue

I have only known Don & Betty for a few years but they were always so very nice. I have missed them at our NARFE meetings because Betty always greeted me with a smile and so did Don. My condolences to all of their family. You can take comfort in knowing that they were loved by so many.

Don & Betty were wonderful friends who would help anyway they could. They were officers of Stone City Squares & Rounds for many years being part of the glue that helped hold the club together. They will be missed at the dances. They will be missed as true friends. May God's arms wrap around their family to comfort them and strengthen them during their grieving.

I am so sorry to hear Uncle Don is gone now too. I don’t know when it will start to feel real that both Aunt Betty and Uncle Don are not on this earth with us anymore.
Last week, I experienced some pretty strange things. I’d be sitting at my computer and felt like someone was there. I’d look over my shoulder several times, but I didn’t see anyone. Strangest yet, was the smell of fragrant hand lotion. It was so real. All I could think of was Aunt Betty.
When I think of both of them, I imagine I can see them standing together once again with a mischievous glint in both their eyes. Look out FAMILY.... be ready for a few pranks. They will let you know in no uncertain terms that you haven’t lost them. As you sit under an oak tree thinking of them with both happy and sorrowful thoughts, you may feel the soft breezes brush your face, and see a butterfly flitter by. Just as you are about to get lost in the moment, an ACORN will drop out of the tree and bonk you on the head. Yep, those are the things you can look for. Oh and don’t forget Aunt Betty’s 4 leaf clovers. You will see them everywhere!
I have so many wonderful memories of them both. God bless you and your families. They are forever etched into my heart. I am only a few miles away and at the end of the phone. Call me anytime. I love you all dearly. Diana Bryant

The first time I met " Dad",
Donna and I went to stay the night with him and "mom". Donna introduced me by saying Dad this is your new daughter. He said OK and the rest is history. I deeply enjoyed my visits with Mom and Dad and our annual " family dinner" I will miss them dearly.
