One saying Riley used to say to us pastors was, "If we don't care who gets the credit a lot more would get done." I thank God for his service to God and to God's church.

Riley was a friend and mentor. He provided me with great encouragement and helped me get started in ministry. His supportive visits to seminary, along with Charles Newman, were invaluable as I struggled with the changing atmosphere. Without Riley’s help I wouldn’t have come to this corner of Indiana and met my husband. He will always be remembered fondly and with great appreciation.

Rev. Dr. Walker was a blessing to me as I began my pastoral ministry. I remember him sharing pearls of wisdom about weddings. He explained how he worked with children during wedding rehearsals. He would put a quarter on the floor to show them where to stand during the ceremony. He'd say something like, "put your foot on this quarter so the sun won't shine, and afterwards you can keep it." I used his advice many times over the years. I appreciated his enthusiastic spirit. May God's peace be with all of his dear family and friends.

Grew up in Summitville next door to the Walker family for a number of years.. RIley paid me to mow his yard and take care of the "critters" while the family was away. I would also sometimes "babysit" for his kids. For some random memories, I recall using a church typewriter and some of his proof-reading skills to author high school papers. Riley also performed my marriage ceremony to Rebecca in 1991 It all came full circle with seeing him in Germany for THANKSGIVING at Rachel's house in 2010! I appreciate the love and support Riley provided for my community and family through his service as my pastor.

I first met Riley while I was pastoring the First Baptist Church of Gas City, Indiana. At the time he was just down the road in Summitville, and we met often for coffee and comparing notes of the ministry. After leaving Gas City for North Dakota, I figured that would be the last time I saw my good friend. Was I ever surprised when as a part of the leadership committee for the Dakotas I received notice that the new candidate for executive minister would be Riley. The committee met with Riley in Minot, and our friendship was reignited. He would remain a friend, a colleague, and a mentor until I left North Dakota in 2008.
I am sure God has received a truly faithful servant into His Kingdom with open arms. I have one more reason to anticipate a blessed homecoming in the presence of Jesus when my time on earth is through. Godspeed, my good brother, and I will see you again when I cross the Jordan.

Riley was my area minister in Madison In when Ia started at Wirt Baptist 25 years ago. He was very wise with his counsel, but more importantly he was a caring minister with his attention and friendship during my first years serving a church.
He will be missed by many.

Riley assisted me in transitioning from being an associate pastor to the role of senior pastor. He was a dear friend and support to me in the beginning of a very difficult pastorate. I deeply missed that support after he retired. I am shaken to hear of his passing but rest in the sure hope of seeing him again in the presence of the Savior we serve.

Riley and Joyce were such a blessing to me as I served as pastor in Bismarck. I mentioned to Riley that I was starting my D.Min at North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls. Without missing a beat, Riley said. "Why don't you stay with us. We have a guest room." So I did. Their guest room became my room when I was in town for the next three years. I called Joyce "Mom", and Riley and I became close. It was a joy to know and work alongside him. I have many stories of Riley and I traveling to the women's prison in Pierre, or sitting idle in his sailboat on a windless day at Maddison. I always appreciated the respect and love shown by both Riley and Joyce.

Riley and I began our regional ministry in Indiana in the same year. At the beginning of every year our staff would draw names out of a hat to determine our prayer partner for the next 12 months. Over the years Riley and I were prayer partners many times. I think often of those quiet conversations and prayer. Rest In Peace my friend.

Riley was much loved and well respected as our ABC of the Dakotas Executive Minister. I enjoyed working with him! I n approximately 2009, Riley traveled with ABC-USA staff to India, and came back with a list of people and projects we could partner with in India. We chose a tribal group of people that Riley called a “God sized task”. Our ministry/partnership has flourished with this group in NE India. We’re grateful to Riley for getting us started on this journey.
It’s a great comfort to know that Riley is now with a Jesus and has been made whole. Cherish your memories. He loved his family!

I'm so blessed to have known and worked with Riley for my church in NORTH Dakota. He set an example for pastors and for congregations everywhere he served. Like so many persons in South Dakota, we remember Riley and Joyce for their dedication to ministry and the joy they shared with us all in so many ways. As a pastor, I appreciated his support and advocacy for women in ministry as well as his keen interest in mission. Riley’s ministry in the Dakotas made a significant difference in the lives of many people and the health of our church families.
Blessings and may your family experience the wonderful gift of many precious memories as you celebrate his life and legacy.
