Obituary of Larry D. Thompson

Mitchell – Larry D. Thompson, 77, of Mitchell, died at 9:15 pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at I.U. Health Bedford.

Born February 13, 1942 in Springville, he was the son of Robert H. and Madeline (Flynn) Thompson. He married Margarete Lipinski on December 4, 1971 and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2008. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving three tours of duty in Vietnam as a paratrooper with the 82^nd Airborne. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of Tri-County Bass Anglers for thirty-five years.

Survivors include a step-son, Hans Braun and wife, Maria, who cared for him in his final illness; a step-grandson, Hans Jr. and wife, Terri; a step-great grandson, Josef Braun; step-granddaughter, Angela Braun, all of Bedford; step-great granddaughter, Nicole Gilleran, of Florida; step-great grandson, Stevin Summers, of Lafayette, IN; step-daughter, Monika Smith, of Alabama; step-grandson, Thomas E. Johnson, Sr., of Georgia; step-granddaughters, Tina (Scott) Snellgrove and Nikki Hicks, both of Alabama, Patricia DeLoach, of Florida; step-great grandsons, Cameron Johnson, of Arizona, Belton Johnson and Kevin Johnson, both of West Virginia, Thomas E. Johnson, Jr., of Kansas, David Snellgrove, of Georgia, Sean Jackson and Eric DeLoach, both of Florida; step-great granddaughters, Taylor Jones and Rory Hicks, both of Alabama; two brothers, Robert Thompson and wife, Ann, of Bedford and Eugene Thompson and wife, Sharon, of Kirksville; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Thompson, of Oolitic; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, Errol Wayne Thompson; a sister, Wilma Jean (in infancy); two nieces, Jana Tomlinson and Rita Thompson; a nephew, Wayne White.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 7^th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Larry Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery West. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
