Obituary of Charles E. Kimmel
Springville Charles E. Kimmel, 90, of Springville, died at 5:58 pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his residence.
Born May 13, 1923 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Clinton and Bessie Mae (Wolfinger) Kimmel. He married Roberta Perkins on October 10, 1942 and she preceded him in death on March 11, 1997. He retired from NWSC Crane as general foreman over storage in ordinance after thirty-eight years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II where he participated in the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and the American Veterans Assoc. He loved fishing, farming and his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Harris and husband, Roy, and Marian Brazzell and husband, Roger, all of Mitchell; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; his dearest friend, Joan West, of Mitchell; four brothers, Jack, of Bedford, Jim and George both of Springville and Lloyd, of Paoli; a sister, Marie Kozik of Pensacola, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Phyllis Vestal; a son, David Kimmel; a great granddaughter, Grace Meyers; two brothers John and Bob; a sister, Genieve Armstrong. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 10th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Steve Delong officiating. Burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 9th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, May 10th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
