I miss you bub. As time goes on, I admire your qualities more and more. The world needs more people like you, and it’s so unfair that you had to go so soon. I wish you could see where I’m at now, I hope I’m making you proud.
I love you,
Hannah

Michael, I love you so much, and miss you beyond words. My heart is broken. I would give anything to hear your voice, to see your smiling face, to give you the biggest hug you ever had. You weren't supposed to go before me, that wasn't part of the plan, but for some reason, God had a different plan in mind. I have cried everyday since you left. Our whole family, our whole world has changed. I want you back so badly. You were a great man, Michael. We couldn't of had a better son than you. To your friends you were true and loyal. As a brother, you were always there. As a grandson, you were a blessing. As a coworker, you were liked, respected, and looked up to. You enjoyed your life, you didn't waste it. You lived your life well, son. I am so proud that you were mine. I know that we will be together again, but you will live on in my heart, and in the hearts of so many others. God Bless Your Sweet Soul, Mikey. I LOVE YOU...MOM

I haven't talked to Mike in something like 14 years, which is unfortunate. I remember him as a smart person, an intellectual, and always being there for his friends.

Thank you all for your wonderful words of kindness. Michael would have loved to see that so many people cared about him, although I think he knew that he had a powerful but quiet impact on the world around him. Thanks to everyone who could make it to the services, and thank you to those who sent condolences or any messages for us. It has helped us greatly. Michael truly loved his job, his friends, and his family, and of course, he loved his cats, too (something both him and I shared, we both loved our cats, no matter what other differences we had). Our deepest sympathy and love go to those who are as effected by this as we are.
Thank you all,
The Family of Michael Dougherty

I am very saddened to hear of the loss of our very loved and very intelligent, Michael Cory Dougherty. This year has been so tough to bear, as we have lost three beautiful souls that now are resting in Gods Heavenly arms. To Mike and Laura, Travis and Hannah. We love all of you so very dearly and hurt for your loss of Son and Brother. It breaks my heart to know that Michael is no longer with us. Hold tight to your memories. As long as we keep sharing his memory, a part of him will always be alive in each of our hearts. Michael as the tears flow from eyes, my heart is broken too. I remember watching you grow up and off to college you went. Thank you for my many memories of you growing up, being such a great Cousin to Heather and Katelyn.Love always, Sherry, Heather and Katelyn Weddle-Lassiter
MY FATHER'S SON
My life contained many good memories, as I fulfilled my heartfelt dreams, for me life was good.
As I looked back with only a glance, appreciating my accomplishments I had no regrets, I was living my life the way I felt I should.
Remembering my father's arms as a child, as being always warm, strong and well meaning, it’s without a doubt he was my best friend!
He taught me wisdom I would take with me through out my childhood days, as I became an adult holding my hand right to the very end.
Time will pass and tears will fade into smiles when you think of me dad.
Memories will comfort you in your times of need, and the pictures you hold will define my peaceful existence, for you created me and I am glad. Comfort yourself in knowing that I enjoyed doing something I thought might make a difference.
Enjoy your life and surround your self in happiness, as if I were still there, when you feel lonely, Dad look around you in remembrance.
No matter where my life had lead me I am a part of you, and I will always remain "My Father's Son."

I worked with Mike for the 12 years that he worked at IU and he will be greatly missed. I loved Mike as a son. Mike was so talented and he was my 'hero' on more than one occasion. Mike was always there to help with an issue and help if he can. 'Let me test that for you', 'I can help if you need me'.
It was so easy to talk to Mike, so down to earth and just the most easy going guy. I will miss Mike!

I did not know Mike well personally, but I did work with him on some particularly tough cases that had made their way up to the vice president for IT. I remember one case of a professor who was using an unauthorized service because he couldn't migrate his files to the official university service. We had been working on his case for over a month and Mike found that there were three files out of tens of thousands that had a missing image in them. We fixed those files, the professor was able to move to the official service, and the vice president was very pleased. I will always fondly remember Mike as one of our employees who solved some of our most difficult cases and we will miss him dearly.

I have known Mike since 2006. In the most recent couple of years, we talked nearly every day, even if it was just a joke or a "hey, how was your day?" He had a great laugh and sense of humor. He was extremely witty and the most genuine guy I've ever met. Mike was the definition of "cool, calm, collected" and he didn't seem to let much shake him. We had a lot of inside jokes and nick names and could "dog" on one another anytime. Mike was great person and he was so appreciated and loved. I'm sure going to miss our daily chats, there's already so much I would have shared with him. My sincere condolences to his family, close friends, and everyone who knew him.

Mike was a colleague. We had regular interactions about email issues that IU users were experiencing. Mike was always professional and eager to help. In my last communication with him, he reached out to check on something that he suspected may be a larger problem, hoping to help others, both customers and colleagues. He was one of those rare persons who seemed to make the most of any situation; he was smiling and carried his sense of humor with him. I recall he sometimes stopped by our desks just to say hi or to followup on something he was assisting others with.
I wish I had gotten to know him better. He obviously had a passion for animals as well, which shows the kind of caring and nurturing person he was.
Having had other young family and friends pass before their time, I know it is difficult for Mike's family. Our thoughts are with them in this difficult time. Mike will be in our thoughts for a long time to come. Mike is going to be missed.

Mike was a great guy to work with. He was always available to help me or answer questions I had, no matter how insignificant they were. Mike had a great laugh and I enjoyed telling him stories and jokes just to hear him laugh. Going to miss that a lot along with his smile and the nod of his head when he came in and left for the day.
Rest in peace. My sincere condolences to your family and friends. The office won't be the same without you.

Mike smiled a lot. He was always warm and welcoming. He was an excellent listener, effortlessly empathetic, and when you came to him with anything he gave you his attention and made you feel welcome. It really seemed as though he was this way with everyone - he was the sort of person you can't imagine anyone not liking. He never seemed cynical or pessimistic, always seeing the best in others. He had a quiet, unpretentious intelligence, and could easily surprise you with his insights. His passing is a heavy loss for all who knew him, those whose lives he touched.

I've worked with Mike for 12 years, and he was always one of the brightest and most kind-hearted people, and just wanted to help others.
