Our deepest condolences to Ruth and their children. Coach Fey was one of the best in everything he did. He listened to all his students and made our high school journey something we were all proud of. Taught many of us to drive but mostly the value of being kind and caring individuals. Rest in peace Mr. Fey. Maybe you, Jim Mueller and Larry Pritchett can trade stories. God bless you and keep you.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Fey's passing. He was my instructor for Road in Driver's Ed and had to have the patience of Job for some of the driving and distractions of students in the back seat, but he was always calm and cool, and definitely in control of the situation. My deepest sympathies and prayers for the entire Fey family.

I was introduced to Gil through his daughter Marcy, who I work with at National Beef in Kansas City. Through her eyes, memories, and stories, I came to know a little about Marcy's "hero" and the impact that he had on countless people that he crossed paths with. We all have people that make significant impacts on our lives and Gil sounded like he was one of those people. My heart goes out to all of his family and I pray that they be blessed with the peace and joy of the Lord.
With deepest sympathies,
Terry Wilkerson

My first memory of Coach Fey was his first summer practice.
I was a sophomore and he had us doing these station drills.
It was hot, it was humid and we were working hard harder than we ever had worked before.
Two older players walked up to him and told him that they thought we were working too hard.
The Coach stopped the practice, got us in a circle and told us to hit the showers..
He told us what sissies we were, how far we had to go and that we may as well quit for the day...It was humiliating.
That was at the old football field. I and my underclassmen teammates dressed in a small dressing room next to the varsity dressing room.
As disappointed as Coach Fey was in us, as I walked back to the dressing room. in the grass next to our JV dressing room was one of those galvanized steel big buckets with the handles and all and it was filled with water down ice and bottles of gatorade....boy was that refreshing.
I remember him taking us in a bus out to a farm to practice on a cloudy drizzly day and that was an outstanding experience I remember even today at 62 years old.
Coach's first few years here were tough because we hadn't the athletes that a coach like he deserved and later got.
We were small, puny long haired guys who knew more about the Beatles than we did football (some of us) and only learned later on how special it was to have as a coach and mentor someone of Coach Fey's caliber.
One bright moment in the sub athlete days of the early 70's was the game Ricky Brown kicked that field goal to beat Jasper.
Back in the day Jerry Brewer of Jasper and Joe Talley of Tell City were two of the top coaches in the state.
They would come to Bedford and not be up for someone they thought they were going to blow out.
After Brown kicked that field goal and after we had all showered we walked outside, the lights of the field were still on and Jerry Brewer had his team still out on the field doing wind sprints as a punishment.
Im sorry Coach about the early 70's. We were just scrawny, long haired, funny, good guys who didn't have an ounce of ability, agility or anything else resembling excellence but you treated us like we were professionals.
Im glad you got some very good teams later on, you deserved it and Im sure sorry your gone.

Uncle Gil, my godfather, will be missed by so many people. He was a gentle man with a positive attitude on life. He taught many through example. Our family is so proud of his accomplishments as a Marine, football coach? Farmer, father, grandfather and husband to our Aunt Ruth. There was always excitement when Gil and Ruth and the kids came to visit. I believe that Gil is now in an eternally peaceful place and that we can all continue our relationship with him there.

I'll always remember Mr. Fey for his patience in teaching me to "properly" drive a car-as I'd been doing it on back roads since I was 14! Later, as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Bell Trace Health & Living, I came to know him as a sweet & compassionate man, who weekly gave of himself to help the residents there. He would be pushing them in their wheelchairs to the dining rooms, or to activities or to therapy-all the while carrying on a conversation with each individual. He never knew a stranger, and no matter how many times we passed in the hallway in a given day, he would always make eye contact and give me that sweet smile! God speed Mr. Fey!
