Obituary of Donald E. True

Bedford – Donald E. True, 90, of Bedford, died at 9:47 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at his residence. Born July 10, 1924 in Lawrenceport, IN, he was the son of Alvin and Ora B. (Baugh) True. He married Betty J. Mascio on December 20, 1947 and she survives. He retired in 1983 from the Holsum Bakery where he was a salesman for thirty-four years. He was a proud veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Thomas Jefferson. He participated in six major invasions during the war and was awarded the Legion of Merit for his involvement in the invasion of Sicily in 1943. He was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Bedford; a daughter, Donna Hinshaw, of Bloomington; a grandson, Nathan Hinshaw, of Bloomington; two sisters, Wanda Rawnsley, of Plainfield, IN and Linda Kelley, of Ellettsville; a brother, Fred True, of Mitchell; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carlton and Kenneth True. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 4th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday, June 4th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
