Obituary of Charles H. Baker
Bedford Charles H. Baker, 86, 558 S. Leatherwood Road, Bedford, IN, died at 10:20 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Dunn Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Monday, December 27, 2004.
Born November 4, 1918, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of Nellie Glover and Marshall Baker. He married Mary A. Bair on July 6, 1941. He was retired from NSWC CRANE and was a veteran of WW II serving as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force including thirty-one months overseas. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford where he had served as an elder and a member of the United Workers Sunday School Class and a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM. During his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, discussing current events and woodworking.
Surviving with his wife, Mary is one son, Charles Keith Baker and one daughter, Linda Lee (Baker) Smith both of Bedford; one sister, Genevive Cowles of Vallonia, IN; five grandchildren, Bryan K. Smith, Lori D. (Smith) Day, Stacy D. (Baker) Gilmore, Erika M. (Baker) McKinney and Jordan K. Baker; eight great grandchildren, Hannah, Evan, Riley, Bailee, Dravan, Kinley, Payton and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 9th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Robert Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in Erie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 8th and from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
