Obituary of George A. Gilstrap
Bedford George A. Gilstrap, 85, of Bedford, died at 8:57 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born April 2, 1927 in Washington Co., he was the son of William Irvin and Luanna (Chastain) Gilstrap. He married Shirley Sego on December 16, 1944 and she survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II. He was a construction worker and heavy equipment operator with I.U.O.E. #841. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Christian Church and Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Bedford; three daughters, Shirley Ann Pinnick and husband, Thomas, Sharon Lee Tanksley and husband, Michael all of Bedford, Ruthie Gilstrap of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Thomas Scott Pinnick, Bradley Dean Pinnick, Michele Tanksley-Super, Stephanie Chastain and Sharlyn Tanksley-Floyd; thirteen great grandchildren, Alyssa Super, Alayna Super, Elizabeth Chastain, Brady Chastain, Geordan Smith, Cameron Smith, Britney Pinnick, Kayla Pinnick, Marrissa Pinnick, Justin Bennett, Tommy Pinnick, Wesley Pinnick and Brooke Pinnick; two sisters, Catherine Kirby and Florence Richardson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Ernest, Ivis, Irvin, Howard and Maurice Bill; five sisters, Ruth, Belva, Dorothy, Wilma and Vivian. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 11th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 10th at the Day & Carter Mortuary where Masonic services will be conducted at 6:00 pm.
