Obituary of William C. Gilstrap

Bedford William C. Bill Gilstrap, 87, of Bedford, died at 5:10 am on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at I. U. Health Bedford Hospital. Born January 25, 1925 in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Winfred L. and Hazel (Hook) Gilstrap. He married Norma Chapman on April 19, 1947. Bill was a farmer, Commissioner and retired from the Postal Service as a Rural Carrier in Bedford. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Leesville Masonic Lodge #161, Leesville Order of Eastern Star #422, the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, American Legion Gillen Post #33 and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving three years during World War II. He was a graduate of Shawswick High School. Survivors include his wife, Norma of Bedford, three daughters; Gaylene Layton and husband Dan of Greencastle, IN, JoEllen Brinegar and husband Kevin of Heltonville, IN, and Sondra Blaschke and husband Richard of Gosport, IN, five grandchildren, Kelly Gerling, Clint Brinegar, Ryan Brinegar, Heather Ford, and Christopher Blaschke, five great grandchildren, two brothers; Luther Kenneth Gilstrap of Bedford and Leland Winfred Gilstrap of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Gertrude Silvers and one brother, Verl Gilstrap. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Rick Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm 8:00 pm on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the mortuary.
