Obituary of Brian Keith Gilbert

Oolitic Brian Keith Gilbert, 52, of Oolitic, passed away at 7:44 pm on Monday, October 22, 2012 at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky from injuries he sustained at General Motors with his loving family at his side. Born January 4, 1960 in Bedford, he was the son of Voy and Phyllis (Pace) Gilbert. He graduated in 1978 from Bedford North Lawrence High School where he was a member of the BNL basketball team. He was a machine repairman at General Motors in Bedford for thirty-two years and a member of U.A.W. Local #440. Brian is survived by his love and bestest friend, Sharon Crane of nineteen years. A son, Jeremy (Hilary) Gilbert of Bedford; a daughter, Jacey Gilbert of Bedford; a step-daughter, Sara (Brice) Templeton of Bedford; four grandchildren, Jerett and Jaden Gilbert, baby girl Gilbert, Aliza and Haden Templeton; his father, Voy; a brother, Mike (Sheila) Gilbert of Oolitic; a sister, Teresa (Joe) Boshears of Bedford; nephews, Johnny Mike (Laura) Gilbert, Jared (Melissa) Gilbert, Justin Gilbert, Jordan Boshears, Joshua Harrell and Aaron Harrell; a niece, Lauren Boshears and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis; a brother, Larry and his grandparents, Clyde and Mabel Pace and Wallace and Delia Gilbert. Brian was a loving father and papaw. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and family, watching them participate in their activities and just hanging out with them. He and Sharon watched Andy Griffith reruns and loved to vacation in Mayberry, NC. He loved to golf with his son, brother, nephews and friends. He was assistant basketball coach at Oolitic Middle School. He coached basketball and baseball for many years at Oolitic Biddy Ball League and Boys Club. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeremy Gilbert, Johnny Mike Gilbert, Jared Gilbert, Justin Gilbert, Jordan Boshears, Dennis Pace, Josh and Aaron Harrell. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 26th and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, October 27th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
