Obituary of Ula Mae Galloway
Bedford Ula Mae Galloway, 81, of Bedford, passed away at 2:54 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born April 20, 1930 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Harry M. and Glydas E. (Spinks) Walker. She married James H. Galloway on September 6, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 5, 2002. She retired in 1996 from Visteon of Bedford and worked as a medical assistant for twenty-five years at the Edgewood Clinic with Dr. Richard Hawkins, Dr. George Sorrells and Drs Mike and Jean Kenrick.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony J. Galloway and Timothy H. Galloway (Marlene J.) all of Bedford; one daughter, Jamie E. Turner of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Christopher W. Galloway (Julie) of McCordsville, IN and Travis C. Turner of Chicago, IL; one granddaughter, Carly E. Turner of Atlanta, GA and one sister, Joyce Ann Campbell (Steve) of Worthington, IN and several other family members.. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Doyle W. Walker and one sister, Helen Marie (Walker) Robling.
Early in life she attended Avoca and Gullets Creek Baptist Churches and became a member of First Baptist Church of Bedford on March 29, 1964 where she remained. Recently she had attended Community Baptist Fellowship. She was a member of the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, the Otis Park Ladies Golf Association and a member of Phi Beta Sorority since 1960 raising funds for cancer research. She was also an active volunteer in the community with many church outings, the Dunn Pink Ladies, the VA in transporting patients and the American Red Cross as a Blood Donor. She enjoyed playing golf, was an avid reader, she loved music, antiques and antiquing, flower gardening, attending social gatherings and spending time with her family and many friends. She was most proud of her grandchildren and the fact her three children (Tim, Jamie, Tony) had all graduated from college. Funeral Information
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:30 pm on Saturday, September 17th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. A private burial will be in the Leatherwood Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Saturday, September 17th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the local chapter of Phi Beta Psi Sorority and the local Veterans Affair Agency.
