Obituary of William R. Johnson

Bedford William R. Bill Johnson, 80, of 1951 W. Powerline Road, Bedford, died at 12:19 am on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital. Born December 24, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Floyd and Lena May (Cummings) Johnson. He married Phyllis Turpen on June 23, 1962 and she survives. He was a custodian for Shawswick School and had worked at Indiana Limestone Co. He was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Bedford; three sons, William Cass Johnson of Bedford, Richard Kent Johnson of Oolitic and Jeremy Phillip and wife, Elizabeth Johnson of Bedford; step-children, Lana Axtell and husband, Donald of Mississippi, Scott Shelton and wife, Melissa of Bedford and Jesse Shelton of Avoca; fifteen grandchildren, Alison Lynd, Ryan Shelton, Donald Axtell, Jana Roddy, Alyssa Shelton, Katie Shelton, Logan Kopp, Jordan Fleetwood, Samantha Shelton, Jesse Aaron, Tyler Kent Johnson, Joshua Logan Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, Ian Johnson and William Johnson; two great grandchildren; siblings, Bernice Stultz of Plainfield, Walter Johnson of Garden Grove, CA, Marvin Johnson of Toledo, OH, Charles Johnson of Oolitic, Rowena Todd, Joseph Johnson and Stephen Johnson all of Heltonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Donald Johnson, a sister, LaDonna Schroeder and a step-son, Leland Ray Shelton. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 24th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jim Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mundell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 23rd and from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Sunday, October 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
