Obituary of Winford Doyle Dixon

Ft. Ritner Winford Doyle Dixon, 94, of Ft Ritner, passed away at 5:05 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born April 13, 1919, he was the son of Anderson Clay and Mabel (Byrd) Dixon. He married Maggie Ellen (Wesner) Dixon in July of 1945 and she preceded him in death in 2005. Winford retired from General Motors in 1980 and was a veteran of WW II serving with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Survivors include a son, Marty Dixon (Mary) of Connecticut; a daughter, Crystal Dixon (Mike Fidler) of Bedford; grandchildren, April Bechard (Zach), Danon Dixon, Lensey Dixon (Brent Ackerman), Anna Gates (Nick), Heidi Thiery (Scott), Shawn Greenlaw (Allison, Carrie Stidle (Matt) and Ryan Greenlaw; great grandchildren, Calen Gates, Camden Gates, Colin Bechard, Makenzi Thiery, Maveric Thiery and Marlee Kubinas; a brother-in-law, James Wesner (Joanne); three nephews; two nieces; several great nieces and nephews; one great great niece; his friend and companion, Mrs. Oguerita McKinney of Brownstown and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Harvey; a sister, Mildred; three nieces and two nephews. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 4th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Dixon Chapel Cemetery in Ft. Ritner. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 3rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
