Obituary of John S. Curren
Bedford John S. (Mr. Spud) Curren, 88, of Bedford, died at 1:39 am on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Garden Villa in Bedford.
Born November 12, 1922 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of John W. and Florence (Easton) Curren. He was a graduate of the Shawswick High School with the class of 1943. John married Phyllis Pendley on January 26, 1944 and she preceded him in death. He retired in 1982 after working for thirty years at Central Foundry and operated a produce stand for many years. He was a veteran the U.S. Army serving during WW II. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Gillen Post #33 American Legion and Farm Bureau. He donated produce to the church for many years and every Friday morning he helped the K of C with the fish before the Friday night fish fry.
Survivors include two sons, John E. Curren and companion, Barbara Lofland of Williams and Samuel Curren and wife, Ruby all of Bedford; one daughter, Drenda K. Brunt and husband, Max of Summitville, IN; five grandchildren, Max Allen Brunt, Melissa Gilbert, Maleaha Evans, Lynessa Cummings, J.R. Curren; one step-grandchild, Christian Garciano; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Colleen Smith of Bedford and Maxine Scherschel of Mitchell; one brother, Robert Curren of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two grandchildren, two sisters, Frances Wilson and Jane Atchison; two brothers, Everett and Thomas Curren. Funeral Information
Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 7th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6th at the Day & Carter Mortuary where a rosary will be prayed at 8:00 pm.
