Obituary of Joseph W. Cummings

Bedford Joseph W. Cummings, 76, of 438 Bartlettsville Road, Bedford, died at 3:37 am on Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Bloomington Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born January 4, 1928 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Roy and Ethel (Easton) Cummings. He married Esther Lucille Roach on December 9, 1950 and she died December 30, 2003. He retired from GM Central Foundry in Bedford. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #440 and the Gulletts Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Gerald Cummings of Bedford; two daughters, Alice Striegel of Bloomington and Ethel Hardin and her husband, Kevin of Bedford; three brothers, Gene Cummings of Indianapolis, Leroy Cummings of Bedford and Larry Cummings of Oolitic; two grandsons, Joseph and Charles Hardin; two granddaughters, Adria Matlock and Andria Harmon; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother, Otis Cummings; one sister, Marie Pickett and one great grandson, Kory Ingle. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 28th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Lewis Williams officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 27th and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Monday, June 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
