Obituary of Jerry D. Covey

Bedford Jerry Denver Covey, 69, 5410 Leatherwood Road, Bedford, passed away Saturday night at IU Health in Bedford. Born March 12, 1945 in Bedford, he was the son of Betty M. (Greer) and Clinton Z. Covey. He was a 1964 graduate of Shawswick High School and just celebrated their 50th class reunion in May. He retired after 35 years as co-owner of Sigma Steel in Bedford, IN. He was an avid sportsman which he loved hunting big game such as bear, elk, caribou, and deer with a bow and arrow. He was a lifetime member of the White River Bowhunters Association. He also enjoyed bird and duck hunting with good friends. He loved spending time with his family and traveling to exotic locales. He married Nancy L. Reynolds on December 24, 1964. Next month would have marked their 50 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife Nancy; one daughter, Jerri Lynn Kurdziolek and husband John Michael; two grandsons, Cory Gerkin of New Albany, and Kyle Gerkin of Mitchell; one brother, Jim Covey of Williams; one sister, Joyce Belle Nelson and her husband Wayne of Sweetwater, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Octabelle and Curtis Jackson; one aunt, Joan Greer. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
