Obituary of Robert Dale Chase
Bedford Robert Dale Bob Chase, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 12:18 am on Monday, November 4, 2013 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born January 21, 1927 in Bedford, he was the son of Maurice and Catherine (Hamilton) Chase. He was a graduate of the Shawswick High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the destroyer, USS Macon. Following his military service, he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Rosalie Joanne Hert. He worked in the areas of farming, stone milling and manufacturing. He retired from Cummins Engines where he worked at both the Walesboro and Seymour plants. He was a 32nd degree freemason through the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. He had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bob loved fishing, hunting, model trains and watching auto racing, especially NASCAR. He was an innovative thinker and enjoyed building prototypes for his many ideas and inventions.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Chase of Bedford, DeAndrea Shawn Barger of Springville and Darla Whitmill of Bedford; six grandchildren, Michael Rodenberger, Melissa Green, Jacob B. Whitmill, Levi C. Barger, Clinton D. Barger and Martha Hilderbrand; five great grandchildren and his beloved beagle, Macon, named after the ship on which he had served in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Deiadra Dianne (Chase) Rodenberger; three brothers, John, Joe and Richard Chase.
Bobs family wishes to express the highest gratitude for the outstanding care he received at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital, especially the Progressive Care Unit and I.U. Health Bloomington Hospice that had previously cared for him at an earlier time. His family also wishes to express sincere gratitude to his private caregivers, Julie Henderson, Jeni Henderson, Jordan Hottel and Pam Fahl for their phenomenal dedication, care and attention during the last years of Bobs life. With their help, Bob was able to stay in his home where he could be cared for by his daughters, Debbie and Shawn and grandson, Clint up to the last days of his life. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 9th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with John Lee officiating. A Masonic service will be conducted at 12:30 pm on Saturday by members of the Leesville Lodge F & AM. Burial will follow in the Springville Christian Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Chapter 2. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
