Obituary of Dorothy Alice Riggle Burks

Bedford Dorothy Alice Riggle Burks, 82, of 516 I street in Bedford, died at 4:05 a.m. on Monday, August 16th, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 2, 1922 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Harry O. and Mattie (Beck) Riggle. She married James M. Burks on April 8, 1942 and he died on October 9, 1997. She worked as a retail cashier for Loudens/Scot Lad Grocery for 25 years. Surviving is one daughter: Ann Baker of Bedford; one son: John Burks of Galveston, IN; two sisters: Helen Mahorney of Seymour, and Velma Thomas of North Vernon; one brother: Ray Riggle of Port St. Lucie, FL; three grandchildren: Michael Baker of North Vernon; Kelly Sage of Orleans and Karen Burks of Fishers, IN; two great grandchildren: Danielle and Hannah Sage both of Orleans; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Charles Thomas Riggle in infancy and Walter Riggle; one sister: Mary Becker; one grandson: Mark Baker. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20th, from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Russ Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
