Obituary of Virginia Sue Umphress

Mitchell-Virginia Sue Umphress, 62, of 2212 Old Highway 60 West Mitchell, passed away at 5:35 P.M. on September 21, 2007 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born October 22, 1944 she was the daughter of Oral L. Mitchell and Ruth E. Padgett. She married Ronald Umphress on July 28, 1962 and he survives. She was a graduate of Needmore High School in 1962. She was a devoted, wife, mother, mama, and great mama. She was a mother to more than her children and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. He grandchildren were the light of her life. Surviving with her husband Ronald, are her children; Ronald Umphress, Jr. and his wife Shelley of Mitchell, Kimberly Robertson and her husband Chad of Mitchell, Brian Umphress and his wife Marcy of Mitchell, and Michelle Umphress of Mitchell; 11 grandchildren: Kayla, Kevin, and Brandon Umphress, Nicole Gulley and her husband Jordan, Dustin Taylor, Daron and Kelsey Robertson, Lindsay Haley, Brian Umphress, Jr. and Kortni Umphress; one great granddaughter: Peyton Gulley; five sisters: Betty Gerkin and her husband John of Texas, Judy Taylor and her husband Ed of Fayetteville, Patty Taylor and her husband Gene of Heltonville, Barbara Moffatt of French Lick, and Janice Wheeler of Heltonville, one brother in law Wayne Umphress and his wife Mary of Bedford, one sister in law Wanda Haase Bedford, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Jimmy Wayne Mitchell in infancy, Roy Eugene, and Olin Jake Mitchell, and one niece Tammy Mitchell. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 27th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will follow in the Fayetteville Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, September 26th, and from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour on Tuesday.
