Obituary of Cpl. Dustin L. Turpen
Quantico, VA Cpl. Dustin L. Turpen, 27, of 13193 Adams Street, Quantico, Va, formerly of Lawrence Co., IN, died January 31, 2010 at his residence.
Born July 6, 1982 in Lawrence Co., IN, he was the son of Steven Wayne and Maysel Lilliene (Pierce) Turpen. He married Kellee Rader on July 16, 2005 and she survives. He was serving his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a saw gunner during the Battle of Fallujah in 2004, which was later chronicled in the book We Were One by Patrick ODonnell. He was a team leader and squad leader with the Third Battalion First Marines during two additional deployments to Iraq. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, two Navy Unit Citations, Meritorious Unit Commendation Award, two good conduct medals, National Defense Medal, two Iraqi Campaign Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and three Sea Service Deployments. He was a member of the Bartlettsville Christian Church and V.F.W. of Santee, CA.
Survived by his wife, Kellee of Quantico, VA and formerly of Lakeside, CA; one son, Alex Steven Turpen; one brother, Brandon Wayne Turpen of Bedford; one sister, Natalie Wells of Jeffersonville, IN and his parents, of Williams, IN. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 19th at the Crossroads Community Church in Bedford with Pastor Ken Ransom officiating. Burial will follow in the Bartlettsville Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Friday, February 19th at Crossroads Community Church.
