Obituary of Timothy J. Turner
Bedford Timothy Tim J. Turner, Sr., 52, of Bedford, passed away unexpectedly while on vacation on Saturday, July 23, 2011 in Tucson, AZ. Tim had attended the National Elks Conference in Phoenix, AZ with his fiancee, Bridget LaFree and then a vacation with his Aunt Linn in Tucson, AZ.
He was born August 1, 1958 in Mount Vernon, IN, the son of Edna Whaley and Laverne Kaffenberger. He attended Rensselaer Central High School graduating in 1976. Tim spent four years in Yuma, AZ working for Wildlife, Fish & Game Dept. He was employed at TEVAC in Bloomington. Tim is an eleven year member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks, Elks Lodge #826 in Bedford where he served in various positions and was the current Exalted Ruler (ER).
Tim was an avid hiker and outdoorsman, always carrying his camera, taking hundreds of beautiful pictures. He published eight volumes of Frozen in Time books of photographs. He passed doing what he loved, hiking and taking pictures.
Surviving are his fiancee, Bridget LaFree of Rensselaer; son, Timothy T.J. Turner, Jr. and former wife, Ellen Turner of Bedford; step-son, Larry Strayer (Deonna) of Oolitic; two step grandchildren, Bryonna and Michael Strayer both of Oolitic; Mother, Edna Whaley (Ron), of Okeechobee, FL; sister, Tina Richmond of Orlando, FL; father, Laverne Kaffenberger (Phyllis); step-father, Boyce Turner (Virginia) of Heltonville, IN; maternal grandmother, Geneva Holler of Evansville, IN; aunt, Linn Campbell of Tucson, AZ; cousins, Catherine Schroeder (Steve) and family, Jacqueline Wilson (Scott) and family all from Mount Vernon, IN; Dan Olin of San Jose, CA; Ross, Kelly and Jillian Campbell of Tucson, AZ. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 29th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The Bedford Elks Lodge #826 will conduct a ceremony at 7:00 pm on Friday, July 29th at the mortuary. In accordance with Tims wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes spread in the Hoosier National Forrest.
