Obituary of Wallace H. Thacker
Bedford Wallace H. Thacker, 85, passed away quietly in Indianapolis, IN on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
Born April 11, 1928, in Crystal, IN, he was the son of Wallace and Lowell (Cave) Thacker, both of whom preceded him in death.
He had the good fortune to be married to two extraordinary women, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Mary Alice Hall on September 27, 1956 and later married Juanita Jay Fine on December 28, 1994.
He was an accomplished athlete as a young man, setting numerous records at Dubois High School. He remained a loyal Jeep, closely following the highs and lows of both the boys and girls basketball teams. He served in the Army from 1946-1950 and returned to earn a bachelors degree from Indiana University and the Indiana State Teachers College. He worked as the Controller for Triangle & Leahy Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1990. Following retirement, he became a realtor working for Century 21 and later Williams Carpenter Realty in Bedford until 2007. While in Bedford, he was active in the Elks Lodge, served on the Dunn Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church. He loved the Indiana Hoosiers and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed golf, gardening, travel and walking the beach on Hilton Head Island.
Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Estell (Greg) and grandson, Henry Wallace Estell of Fishers, IN; a sister, Margaret Seitz of Bloomington; a brother, Robert Thacker of Huntingburg; three step-sons, Darryl Fine of Terre Haute, Byron Fine of Bloomington and Adrian Fine of Los Angeles, CA; a step-daughter, Julia Fine of Bloomington; beloved nieces, cousins and their families. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, June 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 6th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Donations Information
