Obituary of Norman Taylor
Bedford Norman Norm Taylor, 59, of Bedford passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 28, 1953 in Bedford, he was the son of Austin O. and Juanita (Doane) Taylor. He married Annette G. Cottey on July 8, 1995 and she survives. He was a counselor with the North Lawrence Career Center.
He loved history and was most recognized as founder and chief promoter of the Lawrence County History Festival and Pow Wow. Norm, who has Cherokee lineage on his fathers side, also had a passion for the Great Depression and World War II. His favorite president was Franklin D. Roosevelt.
He spent about twenty-five years as a Civil War re-enactor and visited many of the Civil War Battlefields. He was a member of the 27th Indiana Civil War Re-enactors and 13th Mississippi Civil War Re-enactors. For the last two years, Norm and Annette organized the Civil War Days at Spring Mill State Park.
Norm was determined to do his part to preserve local and national heritage and shared his passion of history on the airwaves with Lawrence County Oral History which later became known as Indiana History Project. The shows air on AT & TU-verse on Channel 99 and Comcast Channel 14. Because of his accomplishments, Taylor was bestowed the 2011 Frank and Judy OBannon Heritage Enrichment Award.
Survivors include his wife, Annette, of Bedford; three daughters, Katresha Taylor of Fishers, IN, Kelly (Huntzinger) Nicol and husband, Kyle, of Mitchell and Ashley (Huntzinger) Hilkey and husband, Dustin of Bedford; a son, Kyle Huntzinger of Spencer; three grandchildren, Mia and Brynna Nicol and Aiden Pridemore; his mother, Juanita Taylor and Gordon Henderson and family, Jane and Steve Boshears, Mary and Mike Miller, Doris and Monty Todd, Jim and Nikii Henderson all of Bedford, Thom and Betty Henderson of Orleans; a sister, Austina Marshall and husband, Bill of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Kenneth Sullivan officiating. Cremation to follow with private burial at a later date in Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
